1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi [Traditionally Wise Men] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east [Or star when it rose] and have come to worship him.” 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ [Or Messiah] was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: 6 “`But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’“ [Micah 5:2] 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” 9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east [Or seen when it rose] went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. (Matthew 2:1-12)
The Bible does not explain the identity of the Magi. The Bible simply writes them come from the east. Not also be noted the source where they know that there is a new-born king. Not only that, they are said to have signs of a star, it was a magical event. God guides those who come from distant places to see a great glory that is the birth of the Savior of the world.
The birth of Christ is a precious gift to mankind, for everyone who wants to truly believe in Him. In the world that has been conquered by sin and death, the man walked in darkness. It is a distant and difficult journey that will only end in eternal death.
But thanks be to God, the Prophet Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah chapter 9 verse 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death [Or land of darkness] a light has dawned. The light is Christ. The Gospel of John chapter1 verses 4-5 says 1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood [Or darkness, and the darkness has not overcome] it. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself said in John chapter 8 verse 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John chapter12 verse 46 also says I have come into the world as a light, so that no-one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
Hallelujah! Just as the long journey of the Magi who end up with joy, as well as the journey of life every person who accepts Christ as savior. They will see the light in the darkness and the light that will lead them to eternal life.
Are you currently running in the dark? The Light had been born into the world 2,000 years ago and He still continues to shine and will remain shining lights every man who longs to live in the light of God's love.
